Air India is facing massive criticism on social media following an aircraft trip that was scheduled to fly from Chicago to Delhi flight was delayed after 10 hours of flying on Thursday, due to toilets being blocked. In a statement sent to HT.com the airline stated that a "technical issue" forced the flight to be diverted in the US city. The passengers were given a complete refund.
However, a source informed of the incident informed PTI that the aircraft needed to return because the toilets were blocked.
The passenger of an Air Indiaflight confirmed that blocked toilets were one of the reasons for the Air India flight turned back. In a private Reddit post that was shared just three days ago, the passenger stated there were eight out of the 12 clogged toilets. They decided not to fly from Chicago even though they were aware of the problem.
"Apparently the crew was aware of the incident, but chose to fly off. The captain didn't announce that the plane returned. A few passengers saw it on the flight maps and discussed the matter." the passenger posted on Reddit.
He said that the captain made the announcement regarding the return when some passengers caused a disturbance.
An Air India flyer called the entire event "embarrassing" while others on Reddit critiqued the airline for an ongoing decline in service quality. "What an embarrassment!" the user wrote, a sentiment that was echoed by a plethora of people on other platforms.
"My mom was once flying from NYC for DEL on an aircraft that leaked liquid from the toilet into the aisle. This is, in fact, typical," another claimed.
"At the moment, it's on those who fly AI particularly on international sectors. I can understand that it's suitable for elderly people or parents with children to travel non-stop but think about the ease of use offered by AI," a user added.
This passenger backlash has been more severe on X the other day, when the footage of the Air India plane has garnered 6 million views in just a couple of hours.
